Ta’allum Academies Online Learning Using a Variety of Learning Resources (Years 11 and 12) – Starting Sunday 15th March 2020

 Dear Parents and Families

Thank you for your cooperation during the closure of all schools in Qatar as a precaution against Coronavirus. We are pleased to reassure you at this time that no cases of Coronavirus have been found connected with Ta’allum school communities.

In this unprecedented situation, Ta’allum is fully committed to meeting the ongoing learning needs of all our students by maintaining the continuity of learning, particularly at this critical time so close to final examinations in IGCSE and AS subjects as well as BTEC courses. Your child’s teachers will continue to plan and prepare high quality learning but will simply switch from the classroom to an online environment. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to show how we can fully utilise the modern technology at our disposal and empower our students to communicate and collaborate.

We ask you to ensure your child attends all ‘virtual’ online lessons from whichever location they are in and completes all required work.Attendance is compulsory and will be rigorously monitored as will the completion of work set.  The marks and results of all assessments will be factored in to your child’s overall grades. Please note the following details:

  • All Ta’allum Lessons and learning opportunities will be delivered, commencing on Sunday March 15th and continuing every day until we all return to school. Students will follow their regular timetabled lessons in all subjects at their normal times from the 7.10am start. (Thursday school timings will apply.)
  • Each day, you will be notified of the online learning arrangements and the links to the lessons and learning activities. Details and updates will appear on the Academy website. Regular updates will also be notified via the SIMS Parent App. The IT team will provide further details regarding logins as well as ‘Help’ videos to get your child ‘connected.’
  • Schools will publish the Learning Objectives and very clear directions to the appropriate links to access each individual lesson.
  • Microsoft TEAMS will be the main learning platform to access lessons. TEAMS provides an online classroom with virtual face-to-face connections, assignments, files and conversations in a single place. Students can use their Ta’allum tablets to participate in the lessons but they will also be accessible on mobile, PC or browser.
  • Lesson delivery and access to learning resources will be varied. These could include for example:
  • Live lessons delivered by the teacher.
  • Use of External Resources, accessed through TEAMS such as Active Learn.
  • Recorded lessons. These pre-recorded videos used in virtual classroom sessions with teachers who can pause and explain as needed and guide students.
  • There will be regular quizzes and assessments using Microsoft Forms or OWLTs.
  • Teachers will provide regular feedback on your child’s progress.
  • Student and Technical helplines are being set up to support students and parents and contact details are notified below:

AJA: 44693777  AMAB:  4428 0777  AMAG: 4428 0777

At Ta’allum we are liaising closely with examination boards and the UK Department for Education to prepare for potential exam disruption in the event of a major coronavirus outbreak. The current advice is that students and schools should ‘continue to prepare for the summer exams and assessments as usual.’

There will be opportunities for students to complete practice questions instead of the planned Mock exams, with full feedback given to aid preparations. Particular arrangements will be implemented to meet the revision needs of Year 11 and 12 students facing external IGCSE and AS exams in the coming months.

We thank you for your continued support. We feel certain you will wish to ensure your child continues to work hard and access learning from home during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you require further information next week.

Yours faithfully

Principal
